What it does

Lex is a web-based word processor built around the idea that AI should behave like an editor, not a ghostwriter. You write; when you want feedback, you run checks that flag unclear passages, weak arguments, or style problems, or open a side chat about the draft.

The free plan includes 30 AI checks a month on smaller models. Pro at $18/mo (about $12/mo billed annually) unlocks unlimited checks and premium models, plus an iOS app and priority support. Discounted Pro pricing is available for students, academics, and nonprofits on request.

Lex raised a $2.75M seed round in 2023 and has kept a deliberately small feature surface: documents, comments, checks. It is aimed at people who write for a living and want assistance without surrendering the drafting.

AI stack

Multi-model: checks can run on GPT-4o, Claude Sonnet-class models, or open-weight models such as Llama 3, selectable per check.
